NASA Technology locates 4 victims by heartbeats

A technology made by NASA and the US Department of Homeland Security have used the FINDER  (Finding individuals for disaster and Emergency Response) for the first time and saved four people by detecting their heartbeats. These four people are lucky to be saved from the 7.8 earthquake in Nepal which is located in between India and China. The FINDER is a radar machine that sends out microwave signal through the debris and is possible to detect a human's breathing or heartbeat. Not only that but it can tell if its movement from an animal. the radar machine is capable of detecting people under 20 feet of solid concrete or buried 30 feet beneath rubble. This radar machine is based on Remote Radar Sensing that NASA had originally made for finding life on other planets. The Radar Machine was sent to Nepal on April 29, four days after the Earthquake had hit. NASA has many other technologies that are helpful here on earth for example; Land mine removal techniques, firefighting gear, and water purification devices.

There is many other technologies NASA has made that will benefit our lives in many ways.
  • Improved Radial Tires- ( helpful for lasting up to 10,000 more miles on the tires.)
  • Highway Safety- ( The cutting of grooves in the concrete increases traction and is most likely to prevent injury or serious death)

hockey in space

Hockey is a game that is played on ice with a puck that weighs 3 oz. and of course there is gravity to keep everything in place. But playing hockey in space in a very different thing because you are basically playing hockey in Zero Gravity. it may not be like a real life game but I think it sure would be fun. there is many other videos of sports and other fun activities that are being played in Zero Gravity. there is not many things that are the same when you are playing on Earth and in Space. everything on earth has gravity which is why nothing is floating all over the place and the cause of everything staying where it is. here is the video of some astronauts playing hockey in Zero Gravity.

First mission to the moon

Apollo 11 was the first ever manned mission to land on the Moon. The first steps that were taken on another planet were by some men named Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, and took place on July 20 1969. The Astronauts brought back with them samples of body from another planet. The Apollo 11 spacecraft was launched from the Kennedy Space Center at 13:32:00 UT on July 16, 1969.

First man in space

On April 12 1961, a Russian Cosmonaut (Yuri Gagarin) became the first human to ever travel into outer space. The Russian team worked hard to beat a deadline America had which was to send a man into space by 1961. There were more than 200 Russian Air Force fighter pilots that were chosen as cosmonaut candidates. Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin, the third of four children, born on March 9, 1934 in a small village a hundred miles from Moscow. As a teen Yuri Gagarin was offered a chance to join the flying club which he eagerly accepted. Yuri Gagarin went on his first solo flight in 1955. Only a few years later he submitted a request to be considered a Cosmonaut. On April 12, 1961, at 9:07 a.m. Moscow time, the Vostok 1 spacecraft blasted off from the Soviets launch site.

Interesting Earth Facts

The world is very very large. there is so many things in this world that are hard to believe, even when seeing it with your own two eyes. this video is a overview of the Earth from space. According to some research the Earth is approximately 4.54 billion years old, also know as the only planet that can support life.

Here is a profile on Earth.

  • Mass- 5,972,190,000,000,000 Billion kg
  • Equatorial diameter- 12,756 km
  • Polar diameter- 12,714
  • Equatorial Circumference- 40,030
  • Orbit Distance- 149,598,262 km ( 1 AU)
  • Orbit period- 365.26 Earth days
  • Surface temperature- -88 to 58 degrees Celsius

Interesting Facts on Earth
  • China's air pollution is visible from space but The Great Wall of China is not.
  • NASA estimates on average that 1 piece of space junk returns to earth each day.
  • Continents move 2 cm each year
  • 200,000 people are born everyday.

First One-Year Mission

For the first time ever there will be two men who will be sent into space for one whole year. NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian Federal Space Agency Cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko. Both astronauts are staying in space for a long duration to get more data on changes of the human body in space. NASA understands the potential challenges these two men could face while in space. NASA officials hope to use the International Space Station as a test bed for understanding how long the space flights can affect the humans psychologically and physically. The astronauts will take part in many experiments to see how the one year mission in space affects their eyes, bones, and other body parts. As of right now Kelly will monitor 19 shared space station experiments on the human body for NASA.

Space Facts

Outer space is very fascinating and crazy if you really think about it!

Here are some facts about Outer Space.

1. There are more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe.

2. The largest galaxies have nearly 400 billion stars.

3. There are an estimated 100 billion stars in the Milky Way (our galaxy).

4. 1.3 million Earths can fit into the sun.

5. The sun is the largest object in our Solar System.

6. The surface of the Sun is 6,000 C (11,000 F)

7. The interior of the Sun is 15,000,000 C (27,000,000 F)

8. Every year the moon moves 3.8 cm further away from the Earth.

9.  Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System.

10. Astronauts can't burp in space.

11. When you scream in space no one can hear it.

12. Outer Space exploration began with high altitude balloons.

13. The conditions of outer space allow our spines to stretch out and cause us to be about 2 inches taller.

14. Liquids in space do not flow and instead they form into spheres.

15. Saturn's moon (titan) has a lot of evidence of organic life chemicals in its atmosphere.

16. In space the skin of your feet falls off.

17. On Venus a day last longer than 1 year on earth.

18. You can cry in space, but your tears won't fall.

19. The Apollo crews did not have any life insurance.

20.  In space metals stick together

Would you go space? If so why? i would go to space to see
all the stars close up and to see other planets including Earth. it would probably be scary  as your taking off. but if i ever had the chance to go to space i would

Hockey

Hockey is a game of 5 on 5 with a goalie on each side and the objective of the game is to make the puck into the goal of the other team. each professional hockey game is composed of 3 periods with 20 minutes in each period. hockey has penalties from biting which you will get a 5 minute major to eye-gouging.Hockey is also a very dangerous sport which can result in some serious injuries and maybe even death.Hockey many years ago has changed so much compared to all the new equipment hockey players wear now. Some fun things about hockey are when players get into fights out on the ice.

ever since was little i watched movies about hockey and loved them. my parents and  i went to a hockey game and the next day i saw an AD on the newspaper and Started playing hockey when i was 11 and i still continue playing. i played hockey for 3 different teams in Texas and i currently play for a hockey team in Garden City,Ks. When i first started playing i was a little nervous because i thought i wasn't going to turn out to be any good but i was wrong. Since i moved to Kansas i haven't got much playing time but we usually arrange tournaments in Wichita and we recently traveled out to pueblo,Co for the weekend to play hockey. Since i joined hockey I've made a lot of friends and experienced many new things along the way.

Pluto

Pluto orbits the orbit of Neptune, pluto is much smaller than any other official planet. Pluto is smaller than the seven of the Solar System's (the Moon, Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan and Triton). Pluto is (39.5 AU) from the sun. Pluto was discovered in 1930 by a prosperous accident. Calculations which later turned out to be in error had predicted a planet beyond Neptune, based on the motions of Uranus and Neptune. Pluto has not been visited by a spacecraft but a spacecraft called New Horizons was launched in January 2006 and if all goes good it should reach pluto this year(2015). In late 2005 a team using the Hubble Space Telescope discovered two additional tiny moons orbiting pluto. Pluto rotates in the opposite direction from most of the other planets. The surface temperature of pluto varies from -235 and -210C (38-68 K). Pluto's largest satellite is called (Charon) which was discovered in 1978 by Jim Christy Charon is 19,640 Km from Pluto.

The kennedy Space Center  has restaurants, gift shops and many artifacts. Inside of the space center complex is the shuttle that went to the moon on display. The tickets are at a reasonable price and is worth your money.
